OVERVIEW OF POPULATION MOVEMENTS

As of 30 September 2022, the estimated number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Central African Republic (CAR) is 484,000. This includes 145,660 people living at IDP sites (30 per cent) and 338,670 in host families (70 per cent). It represents an overall decrease of 170,350 IDPs (26 per cent) compared to the month of August 2022. This is due to a greater coverage of the displacement monitoring, which allowed updating more displacement figures, rather than a sudden improvement in the context.

IDP profiling in August and September 2022 covered the entire CAR for the first time ever and recorded significant returns, particularly in areas with difficult access, where no profiling had been conducted in previous months. 205,900 people were registered who had spontaneously returned over the last 12 months.

In September new displacements were recorded due to clashes, fear of attacks, reprisals, and floods. During this period 35,550 new IDPs were recorded, mainly in the prefectures of Kémo, Sangha-Mbaéré, Ouaka, Nana-Gribizi, Mambéré-Kadéï and Vakaga.
