Overview of incidents affecting humanitarian workers

The civilian population is the primary victim of tensions and violence in several parts of the Central African Republic. But the country is also one of the most dangerous contexts in the world for humanitarians: more than one incident directly affecting humanitarian workers or property was recorded in 2020 every single day. In 2020, 424 incidents were registered compared to 306 in 2019, representing a 39 per cent increase. In December, a record 59 incidents were registered, nearly double of the monthly average in 2020. In December alone, one humanitarian was killed and five injured. Nearly half of all incidents (23) during that month were robberies of humanitarian bases.
